Affiliate links

Some pages may include links to products or services, such as identity protection, data removal or password manager services. If you click one of these links and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate links are labelled "Affiliate link" on the page where they appear, with this line next to them: "We may earn a commission if you sign up. It never changes what we report." There are no affiliate links on the site yet.

Affiliate boxes are chosen only by the type of information listed in the official filings (for example identity protection when Social Security numbers were involved, or data removal services on data broker opt-out pages). They are never placed inside the key facts of a breach. Feature descriptions in a box are copied from the provider's official website; we do not rate or review providers.

What affiliate links never change

  • The facts we report about breaches, settlements and data brokers, which come only from official sources.
  • Which breaches or data brokers we list. We list every data broker in the California registry, whether or not a removal service covers it.
  • Free options. Where official free tools exist (for example credit freezes or California's DROP tool), we describe them.

Advertising

We may show advertising in the future. Ads are separate from our content, are labelled "Advertisement" and are never placed inside the key facts of a breach, a settlement's deadline, eligibility or payout details, or between a breach's key facts and its "What to do now" steps.
